The 2 1/2-year-old boy, underwent a nearly five-hour procedure on Friday to remove two rusted needles from near his heart and two more from one of his lungs.
His stepfather, 30-year-old Roberto Carlos Magalhaes, has been arrested and confessed to putting the needles in the boy's body at the behest of his lover who said the act would help the two to stay together, police said.
The pair were guided by a local practitioner of an African-Brazilian religion, candoble, and Magalhaes inserted the needles into the boy at his lover's home.
The boy was brought to a small local hospital by his mother, Maria Souza Santos, after complaining of pains and was eventually transferred to the Ana Nery University Hospital in Salvador, the capital of the northeastern state of Bahia.
"It was a delicate operation. They had to open his thorax. There are needles of all sizes," said hospital spokeswoman Susy Moreno. "The ones from the heart were 4.5 cm (1.75 inches). There are others of 2.5 cm (1 inch)," she said.
The O Globo newspaper's website quoted one police officer saying that Magalhaes intention was to kill the child and that the needles had been inserted over a period of a month.
Local media said Magalhaes was taken from the police station in the boy's home town, Ibotirama, where he and the two other women were being held, and transferred to an undisclosed location before revolted locals gathered at the barracks.
"There is a whole commotion from the community (at the hospital)," Moreno said. "There are people bringing toys but no one has access. Someone rang up crying. He said he had a grandson of the same age," she said.
The boy will undergo further surgery next week to remove more of the needles from his intestines and bladder but Moreno said some may be left in his body if doctors decide they would not cause him harm and enable him to avoid more surgery.
Moreno said he was awake and talking on Saturday afternoon and was soon to begin eating again.
"Before the surgery he was crying a lot and had trauma. His mother is with him and he is being attended to by psychologists and there are play activities for him," she said. However, he remained lying down in bed.
Bahia is the heart of African influence in Brazil, where many people practice Afro-Brazilian religions that combine spiritism, indigenous and African beliefs.

World's Most Handsome Man

Mister International 2008, Ngo Tien Doan from Vietnam
Swimwear, evening wear and polished lines will decide the winner of an international beauty pageant this weekend but dresses, eyeshadow and long hair are out - it is only for men.
After two weeks of practising dance steps and fine-toning muscles, 33 contestants from around the world will walk down a catwalk at the Mister International 2009 contest in Taiwan on Saturday.

Philippines' candidate Michael Manuel Manansala, 23, model
One of them will be crowned the world’s most handsome man.
“Women can do it, so guys can do it too. You see negative press about some of the women’s contests but this one is going to be pretty conservative,” said Christine Huang, the event’s hostess.
Contestants include 19-year-old Russian language student Jelson Quintas of Angola, musically-inclined 20-year-old Bruno Kettels of Bolivia, Singapore's medical scientist Nelson Lee, 22, and Taiwan’s Terry Shi, 24.
“Males can also be beautiful,” said Lee, who is keen to talk to the media, compare candidates and discuss the merits of what matters more - muscles or faces.
In the run-up to the pageant, contestants are strutting their way through a series of publicity events such as a visit to a hospital for blind children and a news conference at one of the island’s signature hot-spring resorts.

Spain's candidate Hector Soria, 26, businessman
“I am telling the contestants how to behave and how to win,” said Mohammad Chamseddine, 27, a judge from Lebanon.
“It is to be friendly, to be gentle, to have a good attitude.
“Male competitions aren’t quite well known yet,” he said.
“For males it’s awkward, but in years to come, pageants will become known for not just females.”
Reigning beauty king Ngo Tien Doan of Vietnam will crown his successor on Saturday. The winner will receive US$5,000 (RM7,500), a personal trainer and a list of beauty products. - -China Daily/ANN

Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Jet Fighter Engine STOLEN???
KUALA LUMPUR: The case of the missing Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) jet fighter engine may be linked to several companies which handle the maintenance of military aircraft.
The New Sunday Times learnt that the manner of the theft suggested it was committed by someone outside the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF).
A source said it was impossible for an airman or soldier to single-handedly steal the engine from the airbase in Sungai Besi.
"How can a person in the military take a container out of a high-security area and export it, going through several layers of security at the Customs and exit points?
"Then, at the same time, find a buyer hundreds or thousand of kilometres away from Malaysia?"
The General Electric J85-21A afterburner turbojet engine, worth RM50 million, is believed to have been sold to a buyer abroad.
The source added that members of the armed forces were only assigned to their areas of jurisdiction and did not have unrestricted access to military bases.
"This is designed to make sure there is no abuse of power by a single soldier," the source said.
"Defence companies have direct access to defence contractors and international arms dealers by virtue of being the 'middlemen' in any government procurement of parts or aircraft.
"This provides them with opportunities to meet illegal arms dealers who may be in need of a General Electric J85-21A afterburner turbojet engine."
The government has appointed several companies to maintain military aircraft and they are the main players in the country's aerospace industry.
The source said the police or the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Agency should investigate some of the defence companies.
The source believed that the engine belonging to the North-rop F-5E Tiger II fighter and RF-5E Tigereye reconnaissance jet had been sold to a buyer in a Middle Eastern country.
"It may have been transported to a European country first to mask its trail before being sent to the buyer," the source added.
In Bagan Datoh, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the RMAF F-5E fighter jet engine, missing since 2007, was sold to an international company based in South America.
He said the company was believed to have hired an agent to bring the RM50 million engine out of the country.
"The ministry will take legal action at the international level to charge the company involved," he said after launching an environmental programme yesterday.
Earlier in George Town, he said the engine was sent for an overhaul in 2007, but it failed to reach its destination.
"We will continue to monitor the procedures, inventory and the control system to prevent a recurrence."
Commenting on the audit being carried out by the armed forces following the theft of the jet engine, Zahid said the army provost and the ministry would determine if there were other assets missing."
A senior police officer has said that a joint investigation by the armed forces and police uncovered the involvement of four locals.
Police had questioned all of them.
The four were the engine buyer, the seller and two airmen who assisted in stealing the engine, said Commercial Crimes Investigation Department deputy director 1 Datuk Nooryah Mat Anvar.
Police had submitted their investigation papers to the Attorney-General's Chambers for action, said the report.

10 Cruel Things Woman Does to Man
Despite being known as the fairer sex, women can be downright nasty and often do cruel things to men.
Fox News has compiled a list of top 10 cruel things that women do to men and how they play with the guy's emotions or ego.
10. They don't pick up the phone
While men feel good as they manage to take the girls’ phone number, the girls often give them a fake number or don't pick up the call.
9. Use men for free drinks
Some women go out never planning to spend any of their own money on drinks at the bar or club. Instead, they count on their feminine wiles to convince guys to shell out for their libations.
While some of them might begin to get to know him, the cruel and heartless ones will take that drink, flirt a little and move on.
8. Use men as placeholders
If she is a decent person, she'll just get it over with and dump the boy, but if she's cruel, she'll hold on to him for a while until somebody new comes along.
These girls don't like to be alone and without a relationship, so instead of putting you out of your misery and ending it, she'll string you along until she meets someone to replace you.
7. Emotionally manipulate men
Men don't like to see women cry and some cruel women take advantage of the fact and use it to get what they want. A few tears would make men do anything to get it to stop.
6. Use physical violence
While men hitting girls are often termed nasty, some cruel women feel it's perfectly acceptable to hit their boyfriends, as he would never hit her back. This type of woman feels like she can inflict any kind physical pain on him without fear of repercussion.
5. Criticize their men in public
Cruel women criticize and humiliate their men in public places. They often poke fun at her man or even soundly debase him.
4. They don't disclose their relationship status
It’s certainly not the worst thing a woman could do to a man, but it is annoying when she'll already in a relationship and lets you assume that she's available so that she can enjoy the man's flirtation and flattery.
3. They withhold sex
This is a time-tested, and frequently used, cruel thing for women to do to men. For most men, sex is as important as breathing, so withholding it in order to get something she wants or simply to punish her man for his transgressions is a pretty awful thing to do, even if it is effective.
2. They test their men
You're all ready to go for a night out with your friends, when your girlfriend calls and asks you to change your plans to be with her instead.
She doesn't have any particular reason; she just wants to see you.
She knows that you had plans to meet up with the guys, but if you really loved her, you'd come over to her place instead.
If her request comes with an "if you really loved me," then it's a test. If you choose anything other than immediately rushing to her side, you're going to fail. This kind of testing in a relationship is indeed cruel and petty.
1. They flirt to inspire jealousy
Maybe she's feeling underappreciated, maybe you've just had a big fight or maybe she just enjoys the tortured look on your face.
For whatever reason, girls who flirt obviously with other guys in front of their boyfriends are immature and manipulative.

Review: Kuching Waterfront
Walking down the Waterfront, I was told that, this area had already being screened to all Malaysian in TV about the drugs addicts. I think, no ones should be revealing this. It actually makes the place looks dirty and danger especially to the foreigners. What should be done actually, make police reports or even ask the authorities to be more "strict" in taking care of this place. There is no need to reveal all this things to all Malaysian. It affects so much the Sarawakian and tourism in Kuching.
For me, Waterfront Kuching is a nice place to hang out. And I rarely see any drugs addicts while walking there. The drugs addicts only come there when there is no proper security or authorities to catch them. That's the problem, the security and authorities! They should implement at least few polices to guard the area so that it would free from drugs addicts or any things that could harm people passing by the area.
So, as for me, a Kuchinginite, feels that revealing this thing on TV would settled nothing, but make tourism in Kuching affected. The only way to settle this is by as what I had already mentioned. No big deal right?
Waterfront Kuching has a great view of the city when it comes to sunset and night time. I love being there and I feel safe even though I had already being informed about the drugs addicts. Because the drugs addicts are not always there, there are times they want to be there, hanging out. But that is what we called authorities responsibilities to make sure this place to be free from this kind of people. :)
Alcohol Review: Hennessy Cognac XO
I have been drinking this drink since few years ago. It was introduced to me by my uncle, as he said, that this drink is totally good and yummy! It was a missed if I did not want to try it. So, I gave a shot, and wanted some more. I finally agreed with him about this drink. It something nicer, and different from other cognac or other types of drink, and I really like it. =)
And despite of the yummy tastes, I am sure that all of you knew the price of this cognac. It's too pricey and it's totally very pricey when you drink it at the bar or club or even pub. The easiest way to get the low price one, go to oversea or buy it from smuggling agents, but it's totally hard to get one. I just wish it is cheaper. As I could say, I am craving to drink it one now. Hahahaha
Hennessy has actually few types of drinks instead of XO. So, I prefer calling it XO instead of Hennessy as it has a lot of drinks. But I still prefer XO instead of VSOP or Paradis. Don't call me over, as I had my tried on these drinks. I am dare to say that I still prefer XO, but not VSOP or Paradis. =)
